Animal Care and Exciting Educational Visits at TLC

As part of its diverse curriculum, TLC The Learning Centre has been offering the ASDAN Animal Care Short Course to several year groups since last year. This course allows learners to gain accreditation for 10 to 60 hours of activities and hands-on experience with animal care. The programme covers a wide range of learning opportunities, from looking after pets at home and working with farm animals to exploring wildlife in the community and discovering exotic species at zoos and wildlife centres.

On July 17th, learners had the exciting opportunity to visit Christmas Tree Farm in Downe, where they interacted with farm animals and learned about their care routines. The experience provided valuable insights into animal welfare and offered some light-hearted moments, especially with the mischievous goats!

Back at school, learners were thrilled to witness the hatching and care of several chicks, made possible by Living Eggs South East. The hatching process captivated everyone’s attention, with learners eagerly monitoring the progress as the chicks emerged from their shells—a true natural wonder unfolding right before their eyes.

TLC’s Animal Care program continues to grow, with plans underway to hatch some ducklings next. Stay tuned for updates on this exciting endeavour!
