Learners at TLC The Learning Centre, a Special Educational Needs school in Bromley, have been taking part in an inspiring Street Art project as part of the school’s Options programme since September 2025.
Every Tuesday, learners have worked with professional street artist and muralist James from Aero Arts, delivered in partnership with Young Lewisham, to explore the world of street art. Throughout the project, learners have developed skills in creating bold, vibrant artwork designed for both indoor and outdoor spaces.
As part of the project, learners have produced a striking set of large boards using spray paints, which will soon be installed in the school playground to enhance the outdoor environment. They have also created a series of impressive canvases that will be displayed inside the school, celebrating their creativity and artistic progress.
Working alongside a professional artist has had a powerful impact on learners’ confidence and self-belief. Many learners who were initially unsure of their abilities have gone on to demonstrate remarkable creativity and talent, embracing new techniques and experimenting with colour, scale, and form.
Helen Dyer, Principal of TLC, said:
“This project has been incredibly empowering for our learners. Working with a professional street artist has allowed them to see what is possible and to take real pride in their work. The confidence and creativity they’ve shown has been wonderful to see.”
The Street Art project reflects TLC’s commitment to providing creative, hands-on learning opportunities that build confidence, self-expression, and engagement, while transforming the school environment into a space that truly reflects its learners.
