Learners at TLC The Learning Centre have been taking important steps towards their future careers, following a series of successful work experience opportunities organised during Spring Term 2026.
As part of the school’s careers curriculum, learners were given the opportunity to explore a range of industries, helping them to build confidence, develop practical skills and gain a deeper understanding of the world of work. One of the highlights of the term was a placement with Dial-a-Ride in London, part of Transport for London.
During the experience, learners were introduced to how the service operates, the variety of roles available within the organisation and what a typical working day looks like. The team at Dial-a-Ride provided hands-on support throughout the visit, creating a welcoming and engaging environment where learners could ask questions and fully immerse themselves in the experience. The day concluded with learners receiving Transport for London gift bags, recognising their participation and engagement.
In addition, other learners completed placements at Costco Croydon and The Royal Oak, where they explored careers in retail and hospitality. These opportunities allowed learners to experience different workplace environments, interact with professionals and begin to understand the skills required across various sectors.
These experiences form a key part of TLC’s commitment to preparing learners for life beyond education. By providing meaningful exposure to real working environments, the school supports learners to identify their interests, build aspirations and develop pathways that align with their individual strengths and needs.
Helen Dyer, Principal of TLC The Learning Centre, said:
“We are incredibly proud of how our learners engaged with these opportunities. Experiences like these are vital in helping them to build confidence, develop independence and begin to see what their future could look like. Our aim is always to provide meaningful, personalised pathways, and these work placements are a fantastic example of that in action.”
TLC The Learning Centre continues to prioritise enriching, real-world learning experiences that empower learners to explore their potential and take positive steps towards their future careers.
